Away @ Barry 13-April-2008

Barry Athletic             253 – 6

Tredegar                      190 - 4

Tredegar’s cricketers started their 2008 season with a friendly away to Barry Athletic. Bowling first on a blustery April’s day Tredegar started well with a fine opening spell of bowling by youngster Callum Herring who finished with figures of 2 - 41. Barry’s opening batsman was the mainstay of the home side’s innings, after appearing to be run out by some distance on 50 he went on to add another 100 runs before finally being caught for 150. Some other dubious decisions went the seasiders way enabling them to amass a formidable 253 - 6. The other wicket takers for Tredegar were Andrew L Evans 3 – 41 and Ian Pembrey 1 – 53.

In reply Tredegar got off to a solid start with a 40 run opening partnership by Lee Herring and Ian Pembrey before the former was bowled for 19. Captain Ian Pembrey was then joined at the crease by Huw Jenkins who added 34 thanks to some clean hitting before he was bowled trying to play one shot too many. Pembrey went on to score 62 with a fine array of shots and Andrew L Evans scored a fluent 33 before having to retire hurt after having something in his ear. Tredegar finished 64 runs short of the target and were left wondering what might have been had certain decisions not gone against them, however it was a good workout before their league campaign begins on May the third with an away game at Pentwyn.
