Barry Athletic 159 All out
Tredegar 170 – 4
On the last weekend before the league campaign got underway Tredegar enjoyed two fine away wins. Put into bat first on a damp wicket Tredegar struggled to begin with at Barry Island but had youngster Lewis Parfitt to thank after he scored yet another century for the club. After 20 overs Tredegar were just 33 - 4 before Andrew Evans and Parfitt got the visitors up to 170 – 4 with a 150 run partnership. With just one over left to be bowled a century for Parfitt looked unlikely as he was 81 not out and 19 away from a well deserved century. Then with just one ball left to be bowled Parfitt needed 3 runs and after a straight hit he managed to scramble home for 3 ending the innings on 100 not out hitting 6 fours and 6 sixes on his way to his century. Andrew Evans was left unbeaten on 43 as Tredegar posted a competitive 171 runs to win.
With Tredegar bowling second, regular Barry wickets being taken meant that they were always up against it with Tredegar’s bowling and fielding exemplary. Thanks to some late big hitting Barry ended their innings 159 All Out with Tredegar going on to win by 11 runs, a result that flattered the home side as they never looked like getting anywhere near the target set as Tredegar gained revenge for a controversial loss to the same side two weeks earlier. The wicket takers for Tredegar were Steve Davies 4 – 31, Andrew Evans 2 – 34, Scott Quirk 2 – 40, Nathan Payne 1 – 10, and Bryan Hughes 1 – 18.
